On this episode, three stories from our 2016 Battle of the SLAMs winner: Denver. Featuring stories from three local storytellers: Andrew Orvedhal, Madeleine Berenson, and Harry Fleenor. A comic gets his big break; a girl pulls a delicious prank; and a young boy learns all about sex (kind of).
Andrew Orvedahl is a stand-up comic, writer, and actor based out of Denver, Colorado. He created the hit storytelling show The Narrators and has championed the art of storytelling in Denver. For more information on Andrew and his endeavors, visit 5unicorns.com.
Madeleine Berenson is the second of eight children born of wealthy-but-parsimonious, anti-social parents who moved every two-to-four years. This meant she grew up in several different states, in large houses far away from other people and packed to the rafters with oddities from the flea market. In other words, the ideal childhood for a writer. Which is what she grew up to be, as well as a ski instructor. The mother of two sons and stepmother of two more, Madeleine lives in Eagle Vail with her adored and adoring husband David and their two dogs, Moose and Ticker.
A veteran of the printing trade and World War II, HARRY FLEENORhas many stories to tell. He draws from a rich past in which he studied law and journalism, served in medical supply in the U.S. Army, and fathered nine children. He hasn’t slowed down. Harry’s days are now filled with the joviality of dancing, the challenge of hunting, the flourish of toastmasters, the selling of cars, and the pleasure of thinking.
