Navreet Chawla is a practising pharmacist and expert in complementary medicine, with over 17 years' experience. In her eclectic career, she has been a stand-up comedian and performed in improvisation shows in London. She is a trained clown and has clowned for patients with dementia in nursing homes. Navreet also writes about the history and culture of medicine and well-being and is fascinated by the doctor-patient relationship and its impact on therapeutic outcome s. In her blog she explores the schism between scientific biomedicine and complementary medicine and the use of language in health and illness.

Cathy Olkin

Cathy Olkin is a planetary scientist at Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado. Her main topic of research is the outer solar system, specifically planetary atmospheres and surfaces. As a Deputy Project Scientist for NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto, Cathy has been wonderfully busy soaking in all the new information about her favorite planet. After more than nine years and three billion miles, the New Horizons spacecraft made it to Pluto and took the first ever close-up pictures of Pluto and its moons.

Dave Dillard

Dave Dillard was born and raised on a small farm near Williams, California in the Sacramento Valley. Joining the U.S. Army in 1966 at the age of 17, he volunteered for and became a U.S. Paratrooper. He served eight years, which included two combat tours in Vietnam with the airborne infantry. After his discharge in 1974 he went to college at Monterey Peninsula College and finished his BA at San Francisco State University at its school of theatre arts as a performing artist. He is a recording artist singer/songwriter and has taught music/ drama in the San Francisco Bay Area elementary schools. His passion will always be the veteran. For over 25 years Dave has been a veterans’ advocate helping those who served in combat process their claims. He is the father of six and now lives with his wife, Susie, on a small ranch near Livingston, Texas, north of Houston. His main project today is establishing the “Home Town Release Foundation,” making sure we don’t forget our men and women serving in combat zones today.

Edie Meeks

Edie Meeks was born in Minneapolis and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota—beginning a nursing career that spans over 50 years. She joined the Army Nurse Corps (ANC) in early 1968 and was sent to Vietnam just a few months later. There, Edie worked in the Intensive Care Units of the 3rd Field Hospital in Saigon and the 71st Evac Hospital in Pleiku as one of 10,0000 women who served in the Vietnam War. In 1970, she left the ANC and began her work in the operating room, which she continues to this day in the Northern Westchester Hospital of Mt. Kisco, New York. Edie has served on the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial Foundation, and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor and on Congressman Sean Mallony’s Veterans’ advisory board.

Jason Trieu

Jason Trieu was born February 24, 1961, in central Vietnam as the oldest of three boys, and graduated from high school in the U.S. in 1978. After working for a few years, he went on to earn his BS degrees in Speech Communication and Computer Science and has worked in IT/Software engineering ever since. Jason currently lives in Camas, Washington with his wife, Jaclyn, and two daughters, Tionni and Lena, and works as a Software Engineer Principal for XPO Logistics. In his spare time, Jason enjoys art, traveling with his family, skiing, playing tennis and ping pong, and being in the outdoors.
