Caroline Hunter

CAROLINE HUNTER was born and raised in New Orleans. She graduated from Xavier Prep High School in 1964, and matriculated to Xavier University, graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, minor in Mathematics. Hunter and her siblings are first-generation college graduates. She has a MEd in Adult Education from Antioch College, and a MEd in School Administration from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She retired from 34 years as a high school teacher at CRLS, including serving 5 years as assistant principal. Following the death of Ken Williams in 1998, their daughter Lisette Williams (XU’06) started the Ken Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of her father. Hunter & her daughter organized golf tournaments at the Mink Meadows Golf Course on Martha’s Vineyard for 14 years and contributed more than $30,000 in scholarships to more than 30 needy students for their outstanding community service. Hunter’s anti-apartheid activities and accomplishments as an educator have been acknowledged by many organizations, including: Louise Gaskins Lifetime Civil Rights Award, Massachusetts Teachers Association, May 2011, Amandla Award: For Enduring Dedication to Justice and the People of South Africa, South African Partners, Boston MA, May 2012, Rosa Parks Memorial Award, National Education Association, NEA Human & Civil Rights Committee, Awards Dinner: Human and Civil Rights Heroes: Making History in Challenging Times, Washington DC, July 2012, and the Dr. Effie Jones Humanitarian Award: In Recognition of Exceptional Commitment to Ensuring Equity for Minorities, American Association of School Superintendents, The School Superintendents’ Association Annual Conference on Education, Nashville TN, February 2014. Hunter is working on a book and is available as a speaker.
