POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Moth seeks a vibrant professional to join our StorySLAM team as one of the Louisville Regional Co-Producers. The Regional Co-Producer will alternate producing Louisville StorySLAMs regularly with the current Louisville Regional Co-Producer. The Regional Co-Producer will connect with our current Louisville team to produce the cityโ€™s StorySLAMs, engage in community outreach, and coordinate with Moth Headquarters in NY.

This is an independent contractor position with a commitment of approximately 6-8 hours per SLAM, spread between pre-event preparation, the night of the StorySLAM, and post-event tasks. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Before the StorySLAM, you would:

    • Book/confirm the crew (including the host, videographer and audio engineer);

    • Print and prepare the physical event materials;

    • Manage and prepare any merchandise inventory and/or promotional items;

    • Assist with show promotion on social media (primarily Facebook);

    • Recruit volunteers to support the StorySLAM;

  • On the night of the StorySLAM, you would:

    • Run the StorySLAM from start to finish;

    • Act as timekeeper and scorekeeper during the event;

    • Summarize stories (briefly; 2-3 sentences) for post-event wrap

    • Coordinate with the venue for setup, door list, and financial settlement;

    • Train and manage volunteers;

    • Work with the crew and our host to make sure they are on-time and prepared;

    • Coordinate complimentary tickets for our local media partners;

  • After the StorySLAM, you would:

    • Submit your event wrap, including a brief summary of each story, and storyteller releases;

    • Submit your financial wrap, including settlements, crew invoices and reimbursements for any materials purchased;

    • Timely and responsive communication with Moth Headquarters in NYC throughout the pre-event, event and post-event producing process

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Required:

    • Willingness and availability to shadow regional producer during the show and go over and pre and post details and requirements in depth

    • A dedication to seeking out new and diverse storytelling voices

    • Sensitivity to different perspectives and an ability to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment 

    • Highly organized, and detail and deadline-oriented

    • Technical skills: Computer and smartphone literacy, Google Drive, Google Docs and Sheets, Social Media; familiarity with Square and/or Formstack is a plus. 

  • Preferred: 

    • Experience with producing live events or volunteering at live shows (Familiarity with The Moth's programming and live show format a plus)

    • The ideal candidate is a 2+ year resident of Louisville 

    • Reliable transportation is a plus
