We condemn the deadly shootings that took place in Atlanta on Tuesday, March 16th. Hate crimes and violence against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community have long existed and are acutely on the rise since the pandemic began. This abhorrent act in Atlanta, that took the lives of eight people, including six Asian women, is a call to conscience for our country and a reminder that silence on these matters is complicity.
We stand in solidarity with women and the Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders in our community. These acts of violence are senseless and thoroughly rooted in anti-Asian racism, misogyny and white supremacy.
Our hearts go out to those who have suffered, and we will continue to reach out to, listen to and support AAPI storytellers, staff, community, and audience members who are in pain.
As we look inward to find ways we can use our platform to lend support, we will continue our work with AAPI communities through The Moth Community Program and elevate more stories from the AAPI community on our stages, The Moth Radio Hour, The Moth Podcast, and our social media channels.
