Norman Lear

NORMAN LEAR has enjoyed a prolific career in television and film, and as a political and social activist and philanthropist. He is a celebrated American television writer and producer of sitcoms including All in the Family, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, and Good Times. As a political activist, he founded the advocacy organization People For the American Way in 1981, and has supported First Amendment rights and progressive causes. In 1999, President Clinton bestowed him with the National Medal of Arts, noting that โ€œNorman Lear has held up a mirror to American society and changed the way we look at it.โ€ He also has the distinction of being among the first seven television pioneers inducted in 1984 into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. The paperback of his memoir, Even This I Get to Experience, was released in October 2015 by Penguin
