The Moth StorySLAM is a community-focused, open-mic storytelling competition that welcomes anyone with a five-minute story to share on the night’s theme. Ten lucky audience members, picked at random, vie for the chance to be crowned the night’s StorySLAM champion.

GrandSLAM

Once The Moth names ten (10) StorySLAM champions we go onto host The Moth GrandSLAM where these winners compete to be named that city’s GrandSLAM champion. This time storytellers are joined by a musical guest and find themselves on stage at some of their city’s most impressive venues.

SLAM Showcase

While there can only be one StorySLAM champion at any given show, there are always incredible stories worth hearing again. At the SLAM Showcase,  eight (8) storytellers receive coaching from  Moth directors and come together to tell their story again in an incredible, curated evening.

Mainstage

Held around the world, The Mainstage is the preeminent Moth experience where five tellers, and a notable host, share true personal stories. Those taking to the stage work closely with The Moth's directors to develop their stories into 10-12 minute stories that speak to the theme of the evening.

Since 2021, The Moth and General Motors have worked together to bring storytelling to employees, the greater Detroit area, and beyond. General Motors has collectively sponsored more than 50 StorySLAMs, two (2) Mainstage shows as well as acted as the Presenting Sponsor of The Moth's Award-Winning Pop Up Porch Tour. In addition to their support as a sponsor, they have also worked with MothWorks at The Moth to bring storytelling workshops to their employees. 

This winning combination of storytelling within the corporation, the surrounding communities, and the country at large has proven quite successful in building positive brand resonance as well as employee loyalty.

In November of 2021, The Moth teamed up with Glassdoor to inspire our communities with stories from the workplace about knowing your worth. We featured existing Moth stories and also invited our audience to share their own stories with us via social media.

In June and July of 2020 The Moth worked with lululemon to amplify and refine their Proud & Present campaign for Pride Month. 

Later, lululemon would go on to fund The Moth Community Engagement Program’s Black Voices Project. And, to this day, MothWorks at The Moth and lululemon host a series of virtual storytelling workshops for their nonprofit partners.
