Dan Larsen was born on Martha’s Vineyard in 1950 to a family of commercial fisherman. At eight years old, Dan went out on his first swordfishing trip with his father, Louis. When he wasn’t out fishing, Dan grew up in Menemsha surrounded by his Norwegian immigrant family, his brother Louie, his sisters Kristine and Betsy and a multitude of colorful friends. Dan opened a fish market in 1987 and continues to run the shop with his son, Daniel. He has a wife, Marie, a daughter, Heidi, two other sons, Aaron and Sam, and six grandchildren.

Jim is on the Board of Advisors of the Mattachine Society of Washington, DC. This organization practices archive activism - scouring archives, collections, personal papers, legal documentation and more to document the anti-LGBTQ animus of the past in order to use it in the fight for equality in the present.
