This summer, the MothSHOP Community Education Program teamed up with Participant Media, an entertainment company that focuses on documentary and narrative feature films, television, publishing, music, and digital content about the real issues that shape our lives, to bring storytelling workshops to selected high school students in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

Welcome storytellers and story listeners!
We’re excited to announce that starting this September, The Moth will be presenting more stories of grit(s) and steel! Our monthly Louisville StorySLAMs kick-off September 27th at Headliners Music Hall and will continue on the last Tuesday of every month. Pittsburgh StorySLAMs begin October 11th and will be held on the second Tuesday of the month at Club Café.

Many musicians have graced The Moth stage, but few as often as Mazz Swift, who began playing violin at age 6 and first bestowed her improvised pieces on The Moth audiences in 2006.
The role of The Moth musician is a unique one. Their music opens the show, drawing the audience’s attention to the stage before the storytelling begins. We would like to express our deep sadness and profound sense of loss at the unexpected passing of our beloved colleague, Katie Sanderson, and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. Katie was a light in the world, a fierce champion of the arts, and she will live on in our hearts and minds forever.

The Moth lost a dear friend and storyteller this year.
Marvin Gelfand first showed up at StorySLAM in January of 2002. He was hard to miss, an older gentleman with a shock of white hair, dark glasses and a cane. When his name was picked from the hat, he stood up and requested an elbow to help guide him up on stage.
