Happy 2014, storytellers! We’re so happy to see a new StorySLAM take root and some older ones fully blossom.
First, we’re VERY excited to announce that we’ll be starting a brand new StorySLAM in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. The Moth StorySLAM is a showcase for true stories from everyday folks. Heroes and hell-raisers, students, grandpas, insurance agents and truck drivers–people from all corners are welcome. Philly has a thriving storytelling scene and we can’t wait to join in the fun.
The Philadelphia Moth StorySLAM will launch on Tuesday, January 21st at World Cafe Live and will continue through this season with support from WXPN. The theme will be FIRSTS.
Meanwhile, Boston, Milwaukee, Portland and Seattle are gearing up for their inaugural GrandSLAM championships. The GrandSLAMs features 10 winners of previous SLAMs with brand new stories. It’s the best raconteurs each city has to offer battling for storytelling supremacy – what more could you want?
- Fish Out of Water: The Inaugural Boston GrandSLAM will be at The Somerville Theater on Friday, January 24th.
- Fish Out of Water: The Inaugural Milwaukee GrandSLAM will be at Turner Hall on Friday, January 31st.
- Fish Out of Water: The Inaugural Seattle GrandSLAM will be at Town Hall on Saturday, February 22nd.
- Fish Out of Water: The Inaugural Portland GrandSLAM will be at The Aladdin Theatre on Monday, February 24th.
Of course, none of these shows would have been possible without the support of our media sponsors. Special thanks to WXPN(Philadelphia), PRX The Public Radio Exchange and WBUR (Boston), Wisconsin Public Radio (Milwaukee), OPB, Literary Artsand Backfence PDX (Portland), and KUOW (Seattle) for helping to give The Moth StorySLAM a permanent home in your communities and for playing The Moth Radio Hour on their airwaves!
