DEVELOPMENT DEPT OVERVIEW: The Moth’s Department of Development cultivates a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization that allows The Moth to sustain itself financially while remaining mission-driven. The team includes The Moth’s Executive Director (ED), Director of Development (DoD), Director of Donor Experiences, Assistant Director of Institutional Giving, Manager of Membership Programs and Annual Giving, plus a nine-member Development Committee comprised of Board Members and major donors. The Department raises approximately 30% of The Moth’s annual operating budget annually. In 2022, the team will raise almost $3M through foundation support and government grants, major gifts, Memberships & individual donations, and special events such as The Moth’s annual spring gala, The Moth Ball.

POSITION OVERVIEW and REQUIREMENTS: 

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Coordinator is an integral part of the Development Team and works collaboratively with all members of the department in ensuring that the organization has the funds needed to sustain its storytelling work around the world. In this new role, the Development Coordinator will provide administrative and organizational support including: 

  • Managing the department’s calendar and helping to organize meetings, travel and accommodations, and tracking and uploading associated receipts

  • Spearheading all data entry for the Development department and working with department leadership to pull custom reports as needed 

  • Maintaining accurate donor and funder records in the CRM and spearheading prospect research for the department 

  • Helping to create and distribute all donor newsletters and outgoing correspondence 

  • Assisting the Director of Donor Experiences with our annual spring gala as well as other donor stewardship and fundraising events as needed 

  • Supporting the Assistant Director of Institutional Giving in coordinating grant proposals and our annual grant calendar, as well as assisting in prospect research

  • Working with the Membership Manager in coordinating our annual membership campaigns, and fulfillment of membership benefits, including ticket requests and merchandise, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

A successful candidate will meet many of the requirements and have the desire and capacity to learn the rest on the job. They would be a highly organized, motivated and detail-oriented self-starter who works well within a fast-paced environment. An ideal candidate will have:

  • A passion for storytelling and a belief that stories are a vital tool in creating a world sustained by empathy, understanding and community. 

  • An appreciation and understanding of how fundraising is critical to nonprofit success

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strength working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

  • The ability to work occasional nights and weekends in support of events and programs 

Preferred:

  • You have experience working in a Development department 

  • You have experience with database management and best practices, especially in relation to Salesforce and Classy 

  • You have experience with MailChimp and/or other Marketing/Email platforms 

  • Event experience
