Filip Wolak for the Museum of the City of New York.

Roz Chast has loved to draw cartoons since she was a child growing up in Brooklyn. She attended Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in Painting because it seemed more artistic. However, soon after graduating, she reverted to type and began drawing cartoons once again.

Her cartoons have also been published in many other magazines besides The New Yorker, including Scientific American, the Harvard Business ReviewRedbook, and Mother Jones. Her most recent book is Going Into Town: A Love Letter to New York. In 2014, her graphic memoir about her parents' final years, Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? won the Kirkus Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award.

“I love the Moth parties. I always have the most fun at them. They always have the most interesting people, and I love the fact that they always have a theme, and it’s something I can get excited about.”

Thanks so much for your interest in The Moth Ball. This year’s Ball, The Hatter’s Mad Tea Party, will be held on Tuesday, June 5 from 6:30 - 11:00 PM at Capitale in New York City (130 Bowery). This special evening will include a cocktail party, an elegant seated dinner, a silent auction, and our signature Moth Ball storytelling show featuring the Art of the Raconteur award presentation, followed by dessert and dancing.

  • Our free weekly podcast downloaded by millions each week
  • The Moth's Community and Education programs, which extend storytelling instruction and performance opportunities to thousands of New York City high school students, educators around the world, and others too often under- or misrepresented in mainstream media, such as those involved in the criminal justice system.
