Eric S. Lander

Eric S. Lander was one of the principal leaders of the Human Genome Project, which from 1990–2003 mapped the human genetic code. He serves as President and Founding Director of the Broad Institute, a research institution that brings together 1,800 scientists to tackle important challenges in biomedicine. Lander is also a professor at Harvard and MIT, where he continues to teach freshmen.

She’s also the author of How the Universe Got Its Spots: diary of a finite time in a finite space, a popular science book, and A Madman Dreams of Turing Machines, a novel that won the PEN/Bingham Fellowship for Writers. She was the first scientist-in-residence at the Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing at Oxford with an award from the National Endowment for Science, Technology, and Arts (NESTA). She has written for many artists and appeared on several radio and television programs.
