The Moth Education Program Internship

The Moth Education Program provides storytelling workshops and performance opportunities to high school and college students and educators throughout New York City and in select locations nationwide. This internship will primarily focus on supporting The Moth Teacher Institute. Hosted by The Moth, The Moth Teacher Institute brings together 5th-12th grade teachers from across the country who currently use–or are eager to bring–Moth stories to their classrooms and school communities.

Please note - for the safety of our staff and participants, The Moth is currently fully virtual through September 2021, so this internship will be remote and entirely online. 

Internship Focus Areas:

  1. Assist in the virtual planning, organization and execution of our program events: EDU SLAMs, Showcases, Workshops, Assemblies, with a special focus on the Moth Teacher Institute.
  2. Learn the admissions process for the Moth Teacher Institute.
  3. Support projects related to podcasting, social media, marketing, assessment and the story archival process, all with the goal of elevating storytelling as an art form.
  4. Support data entry, replying to inquiries and other administrative tasks.
  5. Assist in the wrap process for events including video editing and photo curation for promotional materials.

Time Commitment: 

Candidates will need to commit to being fully available for the following schedule: 

  • Duration: July 12 - August 6 
  • Schedule: 32 hours/week between Monday - Thursday, 10am-6pm EDT, and Friday 10am-1pm EDT. Which specific days of the week can be agreed upon according to the candidate’s schedule. Please note, this position requires availability for the full duration of the internship and specifically the Moth Teacher Institute from July 26 - July 30, with some evening and weekend hours, as needed, to support the rest of our event schedule.
  • Hourly rate: $15/ hour

Ideal Candidate:

  • Has graduated high school or completed GED equivalent.
  • Alumni of The Moth’s EDU Program are encouraged to apply.
  • Highly motivated and well organized, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, G-Suite apps, Zoom, etc.
  • Experience in (or interest in learning about) web page design, video editing, and project management/archival applications such as Salesforce, Airtable, and Box.
  • Demonstrated interest in learning about event production, storytelling, and/or educational programming.  
  • Because this is a remote position the candidate will need access to a computer with reliable internet connectivity.

Value of the Internship:

The intern will receive valuable training in storytelling, educational program administration and nonprofit management and event production, including: learning the capabilities of Zoom and other virtual platforms as they pertain to performances and shows (transitions between cast, visual direction, and incorporating audience engagement). They will have the unique opportunity to participate in departmental meetings, observe storytelling workshops, and contribute to the development of The Moth’s Education Program.
