The Moth is a nonprofit dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. Since launching in 1997, The Moth has presented over 40,000 true personal stories, told live, without notes, to standing-room-only audiences and virtually around the globe. Renowned for showcasing a broad range of human experiences, The Moth produces approximately 600 live and virtual shows each year and has an ongoing presence in 28 cities worldwide. Additionally, The Moth runs storytelling workshops for high school students, teachers, adults and advocates from around the world through its Education, Community and Global Programs, and MothWorks which uses the essential elements of Moth storytelling as an empathetic communication tool. The Moth Podcast—the 2020 Webby People’s Voice Award Winner for Best Podcast Series— is downloaded over 90 million times a year, and each week, the Peabody Award-winning The Moth Radio Hour, produced by Jay Allison at Atlantic Public Media and presented by PRX, The Public Radio Exchange, is heard on over 565 radio stations. The Moth has published three critically acclaimed books — international bestseller The Moth: 50 True Stories (2013), All These Wonders: True Stories about Facing the Unknown (2017) and The New York Times Best Seller, Occasional Magic: True Stories About Defying the Impossible (2019). The Moth’s fourth book will be released in the Spring of 2022.


The Moth is looking for a dynamic and creative professional for its Podcast and Radio Team. The Producer serves as the production coordinator for all elements of pre-production, production, and distribution of The Moth Podcast, as well additional podcasts and audio projects. This includes managing and producing content for publication on the podcast as well as all aspects of audio production at The Moth. The Producer has strong creative instincts and a proven track record of developing new ideas and producing original content. The Producer reports to the Director of Creative Operations and is a contributing member of The Moth’s Artistic Team.


●      Oversees the entire production of The Moth Podcast including story selection, writing scripts, recording the host, sponsorship spots, and in-house announcements.

●      Works on all aspects of audio production: scheduling, recording, assembling, editing, mixing, and publication of episodes, including recording interviews in the field and at events when necessary.

●      Communicates regularly and in a timely manner with podcast hosts, story directors, and storytellers throughout the production process.

●      Contributes fresh ideas to keep content exciting and innovative, including the suggestion of themes, stories and content for upcoming episodes.

●      Collaborates with the Executive Producer and Director of Creative Operations to plan the arc of the podcast season with oversight by the Artistic Director.

●      Develops new ideas for our current podcast and brainstorms ideas for special episodes.

●      Assists in  building, shaping and setting the strategic vision for an expanding portfolio of podcasts with The Moth’s Artistic Team.

●      Responsible for final check of The Moth Radio Hour and The Moth Podcast and publishing as each episode goes out to stations and podcast feed, tracking episode data in The Moth’s archive.

●      Listens to stories from The Moth's archive and collaborates with The Moth’s team to decide what stories move forward to the radio and podcast.

●      Assists with initial editing of stories for Moth Radio Hour.


●      At least 5 years related work experience.

●      Proven track record in creating new podcasts or audio projects.

●      Proficiency with ProTools and Hindenburg.

●      Ability to maintain a high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

●      Experience recording in a studio setting, remotely and in the field.

●      Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work under pressure, and ease with people from different cultural and educational backgrounds.

●      Experience working with talent with a broad range of experience in the booth.
