Manager of Membership Programs

Manager of Membership Programs:

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Manager of Membership Programs is an integral part of the Development Team who develops, implements, manages and evaluates strategies to grow contributions from individual donors, with a focus on the Hall of Flame, General Membership and Director’s Circle programs. The Manager also strategizes and launches new campaigns to mobilize our podcast listeners and StorySLAM communities around the country and abroad. The Manager uses data and analytics to achieve best-in-class membership life cycle marketing (acquisition, engagement, and retention). The Manager plans and executes creative campaigns using a wide variety of strategies, including broad and targeted outreach through print and digital communications, text-based messaging, and social media, to inform and grow The Moth’s giving circles. The Manager also provides support for major donor prospect identification, affinity groups, and special events including the annual spring gala, members’ show, and more. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a natural curiosity to continually improve results and experiment with new tools, methods, and ideas. 

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and edit solicitation, membership renewals, annual appeals, reports, and digital content.

  • Manage correspondence with individual donors including acquisition, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, renewal and acknowledgment materials.

  • Coordinate with The Moth’s Podcast, Education, Community, SLAM and Mainstage teams to schedule and manage email, text, online and social media campaigns.

  • Oversee the fulfillment of membership benefits, including ticket requests and merchandise.

  • Hold face-to-face solicitation meetings and calls with members to qualify prospects for major giving.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to develop and implement systems to identify, qualify and move members up through a donor pipeline to major gifts.

  • Work with the Director of Development to manage the database and administrative processes to ensure that The Moth’s membership program runs smoothly.

  • Manage membership budget.

  • Organize and execute special events for members including Member Storytelling Workshops, Open Houses, Pre-Show Cocktail Parties, the annual Moth Members’ Show, and other events as needed.

Experience/Skills Required:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ on a successful membership and/or individual giving team, including experience planning, implementing and evaluating campaigns.

  • Familiarity with fundraising principles and trends in fundraising and philanthropy.

  • Proven track record of using proactive strategies to acquire and retain members.

  • Comfort soliciting donations by direct mail, email, phone and in person.

  • High level of proficiency with prospect management data systems, prior experience with Salesforce and PatronManager a plus.

  • Familiarity with email and mobile giving systems, preferably MailChimp and MobileCause.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle various projects and deadlines.

  • Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, anticipate challenges, solve problems, and work under pressure. 

  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for The Moth’s mission.

  • Availability for work on evenings and weekends.
