Moth Playlist: Juneteenth

by The Moth Staff

Happy Juneteenth!

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americas in Galveston, Texas were finally informed that the Civil War had ended, and that they were free…two full years after President Abraham Lincoln declared it.

A Gallup survey showed that more than 60 percent of Americans have little or no awareness about Juneteenth, reminding us that knowing our country's history and its stories is more important than ever.

This week’s playlist celebrates the diversity and resilience of the African American community, which is a triumph in and of itself.
